Diploma in Construction Management (Chinese)
The Diploma in Construction Management (Chinese) is structured for those interested to enter the construction industry. It is also designed for those working in the construction industry who are keen to upgrade their their knowledge and skills, and academic qualification for career advancement.
The course imparts professional knowledge and skills on the full cycle of construction project management. Learners will explore how the construction process impacts the environment and the global and local issues of concern to the construction and built environment sector. Learners will also study indoor environmental effect and evaluate environmental assessment systems used to minimized these effects.
The course aims to provide learners with the opportunity to develop an understanding of the impact of construction and the built environment sector and on the internal and external environment.
The course investigates the potential threats to the environment posed by the construction and built environment impact and achieve sustainable construction.

Environment Impact of Construction
The module investigates the potential threats to the environment posed by the construction and built environment sector. It evaluates the technical and legal processes and procedures used to eliminate or minimize the environmental impact and achieve sustainable construction.
Specification and Contract
The module introduces learners to the application of contract documents within the construction and built environment sector. This unit has been designed to provide learners with the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the production of contract documents, and the skills needed to apply their effects and outcomes to all stages of construction projects. Learners will also develop an understanding of how construction works are specified in respect of national and international standards and quality.
Design Procedure for Construction
This unit is designed to develop learner understanding of the evolving role of the design technologist within the construction and built environment sector. Learners will produce a design solution that fulfills a design brief and takes into account technological developments, design approaches and initiatives. Learners will produce design solutions while working within a number of design constraints. This module allows learners to develop the skills needed to manage the construction process during contract and project management phases. Learners will gain an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of design technologists in terms of retrieving information and leading the team successfully. Learners will also develop skills needed to compare quality control methods and evaluate project documentation required for certification of work.
Production Management for Construction
This module provides learners with an understanding of the application of management principles, such as effective communication methods, control and reporting techniques. Learners will gain skills in cost forecasting and creating planning and programming charts for construction projects. Learners will also understand the importance of efficient productivity, whilst addressing quality and environment issues.
Construction Safety Management
The construction industry is complex, dynamic and diverse. It is essential that high standards of health, safety and welfare are maintained during all stages of a construction project. This should be a major priority and dedicated resources must be made available to ensure consistently high standards of safety. This unit encourages learners to explore the health, safety and welfare procedures used to mitigate and control risks on site. The module will provide learners with a knowledge and understanding of the legal framework relating to the responsibilities of employers, employees, site visitors and the general public.
Learners will investigate common accidents and dangerous occurrences and how to report an accident. They will explore the important of planning for health and safety and the technical, engineering and human failures for themselves and others. Learners will become familiar with enforcement routes for breaches of health and safety including prosecution costs and fines.
Learners will explore risk assessment methods and the legislation used to identify and report workplace hazards, risks and control measures in construction. Hazard covered will include physical, environmental, psychosocial, chemical and biological. Control strategies and risks control hierarchies will be explored. Learners will produce risk assessments in a format that can be understood by everyone who needs to read or review the risk assessment, or comply with its contents.
Learners will become familiar with the legal requirements for and required content of a health and safety policy including organizational sections and safe systems of work. They must be able to identify and implement adequate monitoring and review arrangements for all identical control measures. Learners will become familiar with components of health and safety management systems and understand the importance of training, information, instruction and supervision, along with techniques which can be used to aid understanding and adherence on site.
Project Management for Construction and the Built Environment
This module enables learners to demonstrate their understanding of project management and the roles of project managers. Learners will have the opportunity to understand how the client’s objectives affect the project and how these objectives can be achieved through successful project management. Learners will also understand the different types of project management and how they impact on and add value to construction projects.
