B.    Overview


The Higher Diploma in Business Management (Mandarin) will help students to develop managerial skills in confronting economic uncertainties, correlating rising costs of managing business and technological advancement, as well as preserving values in a highly competitive environment. Upon completion of the course, students can expect to gain further knowledge and cutting-edge skill in business-related field. This course is suitable for those who aspire to develop a successful business venture in the arena of business development. It is also appropriate for industry personnel who wish to reinforce their knowledge and attain a professional qualification as a booster for their career advancement.

The course aims to:

Principle of Management

The module aims to equip learners with basic theory, knowledge and skills and techniques of management, and combines with case study to promote student’s ability of problem analyzing and solving. After learning this module, students should grasp the basic theory and technique of management; know the history of the development of theories and ideas of management; master the basic function of management such as plan, organization, lead, control, etc, as well as their correlations; gasp the analytical skills of management environment and method; know how to set-up the management goal; gasp the basic knowledge of human resource in recruitment and training; gasp the theory of inspiration and method of innovation.


Human Resource Management

The content covers human resource management introduction, planning, analysis, recruitment and employment, performance management, compensation management, training, career development, labour relationship and human resource management in a cross-culture environment, etc. After learning, students should grasp the basic theory and method of human resource management, and know the common procedure of human resource management in companies.



This course explains the basic theory, knowledge and skills and techniques of marketing, and combines with case study to promote student’s ability of problem analyzing and solving. After learning this course, students should grasp the knowledge including basic concepts of marketing, marketing management, analysis of marketing environment, market research and prediction, customer behaviour, competitors and competition strategies, marketing in a target market, product and analyzing and marketing strategies, price decision and price strategic choice, marketing channels as well as it’s selection and management, the promotion of product and the selection of promotion strategies, corporation identity design and treatment with the crises when company encountered, etc.


Introduction to Statistics

This module aims to equip students with a basic knowledge and understanding of business statistics. Statistics is a mathematical science including methods of collecting, organizing and analyzing data is such a way that meaningful conclusions can be drawn from them. In general, its investigations and analyses fall into 2 broad categories called descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics deals with the processing of data without attempting to draw any influences from it. The data presented in the form of tables and graphs. The characteristics of the data are described in simple terms. Events that are dealt with include everyday happenings such as goods, business, incomes, epidemics, accidents, sports, data 


and population data. Influential statistics is a scientific discipline that uses mathematical tools to make forecasts and projections by analyzing the given data. This is of use to people employed is such fields as economics, biology, the social sciences. Business and communication.


Business Communication

This module has been developed to promote an understanding of key concepts of business communication as it applies to today’s organizations. Student will be exposed to the different frameworks of studying and understanding foundation of business communication and apply three step writing process for crafting brief message for reporting and oral presentation.



Entrepreneurs are the creators and builders of new ventures that are not only fulfil their own drams, bring them huge fortune but also make a strong impact on the society and improve the lives of people. The module provides a good understanding of entrepreneurship, the issue encountered on the entrepreneurial journey, and most importantly, how you can become an entrepreneur yourself. Specially, the course covers aspects of accounting and finance essential for entrepreneurial venture, basic concepts on commercialization of technology, management of intellectual property and entry and exit strategies.


Financial Accounting

Based on the basic theory and methodology of financial accounting, the module provides detailed explanation about the accounting issue in enterprises’ daily activities, which includes accounting confirmation, calculation and report, all of whom are caused by the fluctuation of the six accounting elements: assets, liability, equity, income, cost and profit. This module intends to help students learn about the basic accounting theory and accounting method so that they can account for actual business transactions in companies and provide the accounting report accordingly to work.


Organizational Behaviour

Organizational behaviour (OB) is “the study of human behaviour in organizational settings, the interface between human behaviour and the organization, and the organization itself”. OB research can be categorized in at least 3 ways, including the study of:

  1. Individuals in organization (micro-level)

  2. Work groups (Meso-level)

  3. How organizations behave (macro-level)

Upon completion of the module, students will have a better idea how to work along with their fellow colleague and form a strong team.




This module will enable students to:

  1.   Understand the fundamental aspects of leadership

  2.  Discuss leadership theories, models and perspectives

  3. Compare and contrast various leadership theories

  4. Demonstrate the ability to apply selected leadership theories in analyzing leadership


Innovative Management

This module will enable the students to:

  1.    Understand the fundamental aspects of Leadership

  2.   Be able to support creative and innovative management processes for an organization

  3.  Be able to influence others to effect change in an organization

  4.  Be able to plan to overcome barriers to implementation of creative and innovative

management ideas in an organization

  1. Progression Pathway

Student who successfully completed the Higher Diploma in Business Management (Mandarin) may wish to progress to Post-Graduate Diploma in Management and Leadership (Mandarin) or OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership (Mandarin) offered by Exerceo Business International College.


 E. Entry Requirements

Age:   At least 18 years old

Academic:   Minimum 2 passes at GCE ‘A’ Level or Completion of Senior High School or


If the above MER is not met, then mature candidate must be 21 years old with 5 

years working experience.

English Proficiency:   Pass in Chinese at GCE ‘O’ Level or High School or equivalent
