Unit 1: Organizational Behaviour
The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ understanding the roles of organizational culture, office politics and power on the behaviour of others in an organisational context. Students will be given opportunities to learn and apply the theories of organizational behaviour to specific business situations.
Unit 2: Marketing Principles
This unit has a broad coverage which gives learners opportunities to apply the key principles of marketing. This unit provides leads to the learning of analyzing the needs of organizations in marketing orientation , and the relevant marketing process, carrying out of environmental analysis at both macro and micro levels. The unit looks at the key elements of both the original and the marketing mixes relating to extended needs of customers, and for targeting groups. This includes considering the need differences when marketing services as opposed to products.
Unit 3: Business Decision Making
This unit gives learners an opportunity to examine a variety of usefulness of information sources and develop understanding and skills in relation to four aspects of information: data gathering, data storage, and the tools available to create and present useful information. Learners will gain an appreciation of the role of information systems currently needed at different levels in an organisation in facilitating decision making, for business functions.
Unit 4: Business Strategy
The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ awareness in the different levels of strategies which could be useful in an operational, tactical or strategic role for an organisation. This will be underpinned by a thorough knowledge and understanding of relevant theories, concepts and models which could significantly support an organisation’s strategic choice and its business work in desired direction for both short and long term successes.
Unit 5: Professional Development for Strategic Managers
This unit is designed to enable learners to take responsibility for their self-learning and development needs to develop the personal and professional skills in order to support the forward going in strategic direction of an organisation. Learners can achieve this through analysing their current skills and preparing and implementing a personal development plan.
Learners will develop skills to conduct audits to evaluate the strategic skills they need to meet current and future leadership requirements and also use it to identify their preferred learning style. This unit will also enable learners to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of their self learning against the achievement of strategic goals in their chosen career path.
Unit 6: Strategic Change Management
Strategic change management is most effective when an organisation actively seeks the participation of all relevant stakeholders. A change management strategy will be effective only if it has the support of all stakeholders.
Strategic change impacts on the human resources structure of the organisation and this often means a redesign of the workforce jobs and skills or changes in working practices. Learners will develop understanding of the models of strategic change and the key roles that stakeholders play in this process. They will then examine the need for change in a selected organisation and plan the implementation of a model for change.
Unit 7: Developing Successful Business Teams
This unit provides the learner with an understanding of the factors needed to create successful business teams. It enables them to develop skills for effective management and participation in successful business teams. Many organisations focus on teams as a key element in their organisational structure. However, successful teams do not happen as a matter of chance. They have to be planned and well supported if they are to become successful, work effectively as a team and meet their objectives.
Unit 8: Developing Strategic Management and Leadership Skills
The main aim of this unit is to investigate how prevalent thinking on leadership influences an organisation’s planning to meet current and future leadership requirements. Learners will gain an insight into the current thinking on leadership from an organisational perspective.
This unit will enable learners to research a range of management and leadership development methods and evaluate them in meeting the skills requirements for effective leadership.
Unit 9: Project - Research Methods For Strategic Managers (10,000 words)
This unit is designed to introduce learners to the techniques and methods required to carry out formal research. The unit addresses a variety of research methodologies and select specific ones for application in their case.
Learners will be required to propose a unique research question related to an area of professional business practice that interests them and will benefit their professional development. They will carry out a literature review on the topic, critically evaluating its relevance to their research question.
Learners will develop understanding of the techniques, both quantitative and qualitative, used in research to analyse data. They will select an appropriate research methodology for their question, and record and present their findings. Tutor approval should be sought before learners begin their research and their final report should be presented in a format agreed by the tutor.
