Course Introduction Course Aims & Objectives

The objectives is to advance students to develop higher and more complex managerial skills in confronting economic uncertainties, correlating rising costs of managing business and technological advancement, as well as preserving values in a highly competitive environment.    


Upon completion of all the modules of this course, students will be able to:

Unit 1:Organization Behaviour    

  • Understand the relationship between organisational structure and culture.

  • Understand different approaches to management and leadership. 

  • Understand ways of using motivational theories in organisations .

  • Understand mechanisms for developing effective teamwork in organisations. 

Unit 2:Marketing Principles    

  • Understand the concept and process of marketing 

  • Be able to use the concepts of segmentation, targeting and positioning 

  • Understand the individual elements of the marketing mix 

  • Be able to use the marketing mix in different contexts. 

Unit 3:Business Decision Making        

  • Be able to use a variety of sources for the collection of data, both primary and secondary

  • Understand a range of techniques to analyse data effectively for business objectives and purposes 

  • Be able to produce information in appropriate formats for decision making in an organisational context 

  • Be able to use software-generated information to make decisions in an organisation. 

Unit 4:Business Strategy    

  • Understand the process of strategic planning 

  • Be able to formulate a new strategy 

  • Understand approaches to strategy evaluation 

  • Understand how to implement a chosen strategy 


Unit 5: Professional Development for Strategic Managers

  • Be able to assess personal and professional skills required to achieve strategic goals

  • Be able to conduct a skills audit to identify learning style

  • Be able to implement a personal development plan

Unit 6: Strategic Change Management

  • Understand the background to organizational strategic change

  • Understand issues relating to strategic change in an organization

  • Be able to lead stakeholders in developing a strategy for change

  • Be able to plan to implement models for ensuring ongoing change

Unit 7: Developing Successful Business Teams

  • Understand the features of successful business teams

  • Be able to support team development

  • Be able to monitor the performance of teams

Unit 8: Developing Strategic Management and Leadership Skills

  • Understand the relationship between strategic management and leadership

Unit 9: Project – Research Methods for Strategic Managers (10,000 words)
